MARTIN ROTT

COMPOSER

Born in 1983, Bellefontain, Ohio, USA, he grew up in Germany with both parents being classical violinists. He picked up the drum set with his first lessons starting at age 6 and developed some self-taught piano, guitar and bass skills, playing in school and church bands.

Studies began at age 16, attending a summer programme in Berklee, Boston, USA and 3 years at the Conservartory in Enschede, NL, majoring in jazz drums. He earned his diploma as a jazzmusician later at the State School of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, whilst doubling at the Popakademie Mannheim, receiving a BA in music production where he wrote and produced his first LP for his indie-pop duo „Anstatt Blumen“.

After teaching drums, playing in and also producing several bands from indie to latin, pop and partybands, he followed the job offer for the in-house junior-producer of Austria’s largest commercial Studio „MG-Sound“ and moved to Vienna, where he started building a composer’s portfolio, which led to Dynamedion welcoming him to the Team of external composers in 2013. Wanting to devote more of his time to the longer format, he decided quitting the vienna job, simultaneously being offered his first TV-Series credit scoring „Block B – Unter Arrest“ with Dynamedion in 2014. He then eventually got to play an increasingly greater role in Dynamedion’s TV department, composing much used main themes for every TV-Series the team scored since 2014, including close to 50 Episodes of „Der Lehrer“ alone, alongside series like „Der Staatsanwalt“, „Milk and Honey“ and many more.
He’s been living in Berlin since 2015 with his wife and two kids, while still regulary touring as a member of the live band for Austrian pop star Julian LePlay.

Martin’s style includes a wide range from cinematic orchestral arrangements to minimalistic electronic, handcrafted intimate or peculiar sounding tracks. That being said, he has a special penchant for the „major-minor“ and is often called to fix the strange „in-betweenish“ parts, whereever beauty lies in an odd or even tragic situation.
Martin runs his own fully equipped recording studio based in Berlin, including a collection of analog synths and vintage instruments which, although working within the shoebox of the projects demands, help finding a unique sound for every theme he writes.
